McLaren X-1 Concept:
Here’s a look at the McLaren X-1 Concept unveiled at the 2012 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance built by McLaren Special Operations (MSO). The one-off model was exclusively for a client who went to McLaren’s Executive Chairman Ron Dennis three-years-ago and discussed a unique vision of his.
His request was to pull inspiration from Classic Cars (a 1961 Facel Vega, a 1953 Chrysler D’Elegance Ghia, a 1959 Buick Electra, a 1939 Mercedes-Benz 540K and a 1971 Citroën SM), a Jaeger LeCoultre Clock, an Airstream Trailer, a Thomas Mann Montblanc Pen, a Grand Piano and an Eggplant.
The client then hosted a competition to test the designers at McLaren against other designers from different companies with the victory going to McLaren’s Hong Yeo. Equipped with lifting rear wheel base and gull-wing doors, the McLaren X-1 Concept brought an incredible wow-factor to the prestigious event.
